Not so long ago, we could not escape the phrase #YOLO. Short for “You Only Live Once”, it was the battle cry of many mad adventures. That call sounded all over social media, fashion, and households with teenagers. Live your life to the fullest, do the scary things, and acknowledge your own mortality. It’s just the latest version of Carpe Diem. Seize the Day.

This is a theme that has been with us for thousands of years. Life won’t last forever, so live it while you can. It has sadly also caused its own wave of heartbreak, as those who probably could have been more careful, leapt before they looked, leaving family and loved ones behind to mourn their short lives. Another theme that has been with us for as long as we have had loved ones to lose.

In all this darkness, we would like to light a few ways forward.

It is part of our purpose, as a companion to all South Africans, that we treat you with dignity. In our most difficult moments, that single consideration can make a world of difference, and that is why we have re-invented our Funeral Insurance products. We cannot stop death, we cannot bring back the ones you have lost. What we can do, is ensure that your last memories of them are not clouded by the horrors and frustrations of trying to secure money for a burial or last rights. We know (better than many!) how long a Deceased Estate can take, that there are many costs associated with putting your loved one to rest, and that it is the absolute worst time for loads of admin.

Funeral plans are something each of us should have in place. Not only to ease the burden of our own grief, but for those who we ask to see to our own last wishes when we’re gone. We know it can be scary to think of what will happen if you do not have any family to look after your last rights, but we’ve found a way to help solve this problem

To ensure that you need not worry, even if you are free of dependents or haven’t started your family yet, we have added an Individual option on all of our plans. This allows those without a spouse or kids to nominate a trusted beneficiary who will be paid the cover when they die. You can nominate the executor of your will or even your best friend, and rest in peace knowing that you will not be bankrupting them by expecting them to look after your last wishes.

Individual Funeral Cover from as little as R1 per day

Our Individual Plans are a great way to get the cover you need. Whether you are at a point in your life when you are still starting out, or just needing to put yourself first. Super-affordable premiums plus a cash-payout means no drama.

We all want to know that cost will not be factor when it’s time to say our final farewells. To make this a reality, we have added another plan- our Platinum Funeral plan. While it also comes with the Individual option, and it can pay out up to R30 000 rand when a person on this plan passes away, it really shines as a plan to take care of the whole family.

Platinum offers the most generous options to cover you, your spouse, your kids, and as an optional extra, your parents can be added too for a minimal additional premium. With added cover for accidental death included, and a few other super-helpful considerations, you know your family is completely covered. This way, the financial pressure of you or your loved ones passing will be eased, and your peace of mind can start today.

Don’t let fear of what happens later, keep you from your life now.
